I’ve been bored and uninterested in blogging lately, been more interested in other stuff, so sorry. I wish I felt like blogging, but I didn’t, so… when I don’t feel it, I just can’t do it, you know? We’re still in first place, although the lead we have over Boston is not quite as comfortable as it once was. We win some, we lose some. Still, look for this team to win the World Series this year, I can just feel it.

Stay positive, Yankee fans, I’m not dead(yet).

Should I Be Surprised?

texclutchhomer.PNG

I’m not sure if I should. I mean, come on. We’ve gotten late hits in games so many times in the past, it’s ridiculous. Tex just added to the list of late inning go ahead hits. We’ve got to be the most clutch team in the game right now, no questions asked. We lead the MLB in walk offs and comeback wins. If it’s late and close, somebody will come through. Teixeira came through tonight. Before, it’s been Matsui, Posada, Cano, Rodriguez, Jeter, Damon, you name him, he’s come through in a big situation. Hell, Ramiro Pena’s first career RBI came against the Angels in late innings with the bases loaded. If I’ve got a really good pitcher on the mound who’s setting down the Yankees, I leave him in for as long as I possibly can. He’ll go 12 for me. 150 pitches? I could care less, man. I don’t take the chance of bringing in another pitcher who may or may not put out a terrific outing. The New York Yankees always come through in the clutch. Always. And don’t you forget it.

As for the game in Texas, I shall speak no more. I like Frank Francisco. In fact, I think he’s on my fantasy team. Therefore, I will not say anything more about that game.

vicmartinez.PNG

And it seems as though, for the first time ever, the Yanks are not on FOX on a Saturday. And you should know how I think about that. Thank God. If I had to listen to Tim McCarver’s clueless rambling about Derek Jeter’s Godliness… if I had to listen to McCarver stumble and mumble and repeat himself constantly on a point that we really already knew anyway, but he just feels so glad that he’s right that he’ll try and constantly mention it so that we don’t forget his rightness… for another damn Sunday, I think I’d crack the wall open. And it’s not just McCarver, either. It’s FOX’s damn inability to give you a nice ballgame without screwing up the volume so that you have to mute it on commercials and then put it up to freaking 40 during game time. They have an extremely shoddy audio crew, and that’s being kind.

But thank God that the game is at 10. I usually prefer 7, but 10 is late enough so that I can enjoy my Saturday without feeling pressured to watch the game.

As for the Song of the Day, well, it’s Breaking Benjamin weekend, Break My Fall was yesterday, today it’s one of the tracks from their 2006 album “Phobia”, ladies and gentlemen, Dance with the Devil.

A Yankees Classic If I Ever Saw One

arodwalkoffhomer.PNG

Only rivaled by no hitters and perfect games.

I mean, come on now. It’s hard for games to get any more tense, any more epic, any more meaningful, any more crazy for God’s sake. It was just one of the more unbelievable games of the year, it has to be. An unbelievable pitching duel, great defense, near endings, and then A-Rod comes up, without a homer in a long time, and what does he do?

Well, all he does is send Junichi Tazawa’s breaking ball into the left center field stands, ending the game in the 15th inning of play. That’s just a hell of a thing. You don’t see great games like that every day.

And the importance of that game cannot be doubted, either. This was perhaps the Red Sox’s most important game of the year, as coming in they were 3.5 games out of first place and they had the Texas Rangers on their back, on their trail. They desperately needed this win, and they didn’t get it. Now they have put themselves in a really difficult situation, 4.5 games out of first place in the AL East and only 1 game separates them from the Texas Rangers in the AL Wild Card.

Don’t you just love it that the Red Sox are in a difficult situation? Gooo Rangers!

The Song of the Day is A Tribe Called Quest’s 1989 hip hop hit Can I Kick It? It’s mad funky.

Yankees SERGE To First Place

ortiztaggedout.PNG

Muahahaha.

The Yankees are in first place thanks to great defense and good pitching by Sergio Mitre, combined with timely hitting. We’re executing everything as well as we need to. We’re SO GOOD!

Oh yeah, and the Red Sox have also apparently engaged in an encounter with THE ENDCAT.

See that Julia? Worked it into a post about the Yankees. Rico suave…

In all seriousness, Sergio(one of the coolest Hispanic names btw, cause then you can call him SERGE) had his sanker last night, and Mitre wasn’t playing around with that thing either. That was a SANKER. It had magnificent action on it at times with good velocity and the location was good.

As I’m writing this, Derek Jeter has just whacked a double into left center. DJ’s really surprised me this year; hitting for a great average, stealing some bases, even knocking the ball out of the park. Any time you can get that outta Captain Crunch, you’ve gotta appreciate.

Hey look at that, A-Rod with an RBI knock. 1-0 already! Jeez’m.

Anyways, back to the matter at hand, which is…

sergiomitre.PNG

…the power sinker of Sergio Mitre. While his final linescore of 5.2 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 8 hits doesn’t seem all that impressive, keep in mind that Brian Roberts got 3 of those hits and that two of them came in the last innning he pitched.

4-0 Yankees! Two run single for Swisher! This is amazing!

Sergio Mitre could definitely be an effective, strong 5th starter for the Yankees judging on that stuff and command. He has a tough, 92-93 mph sinker that just takes a nosedive sometimes, a slow slurvey slider that can fool hitters at times, and a decent changeup, and he locates those three options pretty well. I’d like it if he can continue what he did in his first start throughout his tenure with us. It’s all that we really need from him.

Hopefully this is no Matt DeSalvo flash in the pan here.

And as for the Red Sox?

Well, they’ve just made a trade for Adam LaRoche with the Pirates, so that’s really got to suck for Andy LaRoche, his brother. This acquisition of LaRoche has got to mean something’s up with Mike Lowell or maybe even Big Papi. So something’s up there. Another reason they’re struggling is because of two acquisitions in which I remember I was never high on in the first place: Brad Penny and John Smoltz. I remember there was a lot of fuss over both signings. People were saying it was a good acquisition, getting Penny because he’s a former all star, he could give them something etc. I was all “Whatchu talkin’ bout, Willis?” on that, and I knew that Brad Penny was going to have a bad year. You can see that in my comparison of the Yanks’ and Red Sox’ rotation.

And the second acquisition was John Smoltz. People were thinking he’d be a great veteran presence who’d still be able to dominate at times. They thought he’d return to his injury and go back to his dominant ’07 form, and that he’d be a great presence in the postseason. That’s the one thing they brought up the most, the postseason. Well ladies and gentlemen, he was injured and he’s also 42 years old(and by the way looks every bit of it).

johnsmoltz.PNG

So now the Red Sox are frustrated, as you can probably tell from the above image of John Smoltz. They’ve scuffled all the way to 2nd place, and now they’ve got to watch out for them Rangers and Rays. Tampa Bay is 4 days away from making my pre season predictions for the playoffs even more ballsy and fairly correct(I’m still recovering from the Indians and Mets prediction though).

The Song of the Day is Workin’ by Good Charlotte and Young Dre

Stay positive, Yankee fans! 4-0 Bombers and we’re in first!

-EJ the Kid From New York

Reduncutron

This 2nd half for the Bombers has only one word to describe it:

Reduncutron.

matsuiwalkoff.PNG

Don’t ask what it means.

After Hideki Matsui’s long home run to win the game in walk-off fashion, the Yankees have won their first 4 following the All-Star break and are now tied up with the Red Sox at the top of the AL East thanks to my second favorite team, the Tex-izz Rangers.

I didn’t even jump around and shout like I usually do when there’s a walkoff when Matsui hit it out last night. I simply repeated in a calm voice, “Unbelievable.” Because, while it is unbelievable what we’re doing right now, we’ve been playing so well and doing this so often… simply reduncutron.

A-Rod Admits Steroid Use in Texas

Click here to read the article about it.

Well this makes me feel a lot better. First of all, he stated that he did not use performance enhancing drugs in New York, only in Texas. In my selfish, Yankee mind, that satisfies me. Second of all, he seems genuinely sorry for it. I forgive him. I’m glad he confessed instead of just denying it and denying it and turning it into an ugly thing. I feel bad for him, because now this steroid issue will never go away. But hey, that’s what happens when you do steroids. Obviously people are going to hate him now, and disrespect him now, and that’s the reason he took steroids in the first place. I hope this doesn’t get him out of the hall of fame; he’s still a fantastic player who had a fantastic career, who made a mistake once.

More soda…

Alex Rodriguez Tested Positive in 03

And I’m still in shock.

Frankly, I don’t know why I’m so surprised at this. He’s such an outstanding player… and his work ethic, his non stop training and… I don’t know what happened. Do positive steroid tests end up misleading? I hope that’s the case here. Maybe he just took steroids once and didn’t do it again. I would forgive him for THAT… maybe he uses it a ton. I don’t know. We really don’t know. All we know is, he tested positive for steroids back in 2003 with the Rangers, and that now HIS name will be tainted forever, which honestly kills me.

alexkneel.PNG

I don’t know why I get so attached to players, but I do. It’s not just Yankee players, but pretty much all players. I feel bad for them. I walk through their shoes. I really don’t think A-Rod is a true cheater… I don’t know that for sure. Until you can prove to me that Alex Rodriguez is a full fledged roid raging cheat cheat cheater, and there’s no doubt about it, I’m going to continue to support him and continue believing otherwise.

I’m going to drink A LOT of soda now…

I’m going to be using this blog entry to present information about this whole Alex Rodriguez situation. Here, I’ll present all the facts I can find about it on MLB Network and other resources. Here are some of the notes I have taken thus far, and I’ll continue to add info as I learn more:

Current Information:

Survey was supposed to be anonymous, and results were to be destroyed

MLBPA never explained why they did not destroy the results

Gene Orza reportedly tipped a player(supposedly Alex Rodriguez) that a test would be coming up later in the year

Sources will not be revealed

Rodriguez chose not to reveal any information to Selena Roberts about the situation

Scott Boras most likely was aware of this situation

Additional names have not been verified from this test.

Rob Manfred, MLB Executive VP of Labor Relations: “…we can not make any comment on the accuracy of this report as it pertains to the player named. …any allegation of tipping that took place under prior iterations of the program is of grave concern to Major League Baseball, as such behavior would constitute a serious breach of our agreement.”

Gene Orza on A-Rod steroid test results in 03: “I’m not interested in discussing this information with you.”

Alex Rodriguez is not in danger of being fined or of leaving the Yankees

Okay, Listen Up

byrdslidesafe.PNG

Marlon Byrd slides safe into home plate.

The last 2 days, being a Yankee fan went from being respectable to being in an awful situation. Why? Because the Rangers, carried by the bats of Marlon Byrd and Josh Hamilton and Ramon Vasquez and all sorts of guys. The Rangers have played pretty good defense, and their pitching has been iffy, but they’ve gotten through it. The Rangers offense has overwhelmed the Yankees pitching, and while the Yankees have hit at times, it hasn’t been enough. It’s been embarressing, how bad the Yankees have looked in the past 2 days. It’s only two days, but they’re two unencouraging days. It’s not just because of the winning, however, that’s got Yankee fans down in the dumps.

The Rays have won when the Yankees have lost. The Rays have won when the Yankees have won. The only time the Tampa Bay Rays have lost is when the Yankees have lost. It’s the same with the Red Sox. When they lose, so do the Yankees. It’s gotten to a point where it’s extremely frustrating for Yankee fans to stick around. The Yankees are slowly, but surely, losing ground in the tough AL East and AL Wild Card standings. Slowly, but surely, the hopes of another postseason run, and subsequently, another World Series, is quieting down. The Yankees are now at a point where the thought of them winning the World Series in the last season of it’s legendary ballpark is dieing down, and that’s FAR from good.

jobainjury.PNG

Joba Chamberlain leaves the game with an injury.

But to top it all off, as though the first two reasons aren’t reason enough to be under the weather, the Yankee fans have been hit by a short, yet extremely excruciating loss to their ballclub. 7 games out of first place in the AL East, the Yankees lost their ace of the future, Joba Chamberlain, to injury. He’s been placed on the disabled list with an injury to the right shoulder. Chamberlain was the most dominating pitcher, stuff wise, in the Bombers rotation. The young righty may be out for the rest of the season, the Yankees have yet to report what the problem Joba has in his pitching shoulder. Initial reports say it’s a stiff shoulder, it could be worse. After Chien-Ming Wang was confirmed to be out for the rest of the season until October. An acquirement of Jarrod Washburn or Paul Byrd is not nearly big enough to cover that huge scar that the losses of Chamberlain and Wang have left.

With that being said, all we have is hope. Hope. We need to hope; hope the offense can come back and become what it’s supposed to be. Hope the pitching can keep us in ballgames and hold the opposing team down so the offense can rise up. We need to hope our bullpen becomes what it was before, a dominating force. Marte, Ramirez, Veras, Bruney, all these guys have the stuff to dominate and have dominated in this season. Let’s face it, our chances are getting smaller. Every time the Red Sox or the Rays win, our chances of making the playoffs get smaller and smaller. But that’s the beauty of the game. Last year, the Rockies kept winning and winning and never stopped winning and beat the Padres in a one-game playoff to make the postseason, and eventually make the World Series. The Phillies came back from a huge deficit made by the Mets to make the postseason. We just have to cheer our Yankees on until the end.

Though it gets tough sometimes,

Stay positive, Yankees fans.

Some Serious Initiation; Yankees Win 14-9

angelsepicfail.PNG

Some Serious Initiation; Yankees Win 14-9

Oh boy, what a game. What a game. A real see-saw game. It started off awful, as the Yankees were losing 5-0 against John Lackey, who is really dominating. People thought that this game was over. But the Yankees rallied back to tie it, and eventually, after Xavier Nady hit a three-run shot into deep left field, the Yankees were leading 8-5. But then, Mark Texeira ended up bombing a grand slam off of Edwar Ramirez to give the Angels the lead. Well, what do the Yankees do next inning? A leadoff single by Pudge Rodriguez (his second hit, after a homer), an error by Aybar and an error on a throw to third when the pinch-runner Christian was running scored Christian, and we’re all tied, 9-9. With the bases loaded, A-Rod grounded to third where Figgins booted it and the Yankees took the lead. A 2-run single by Cano, an RBI single by Nady and an RBI single by Christian gave the Yankees a 14-9 lead they’d never relinquish. I’d like to thank everybody who came by for the in-gamer, it was a huge success, I got over 250 comments. Thanks to Sean (who said my hosting is second-to-none, that was really nice), Jason (who had a huge chunk of those comments), NMYF (or William), and Vanessa and Jeff, who only made one comment each but they are really good friends. Finally, my prayers go out to Vanessa and her mother, who is sick. I hope she gets better in no time, really I do.

So we’re gonna have a fun, but short blog. Our next segment, entitled Where Are They Now? looks at Yankee players from last year and shows what team they’re now on and how they’re doing. Let’s get started with Where Are They Now!

Where Are They Now?

Alright, here we’re going to take 3 Yankee players from 2007 (or 2008) and tell you what team they’re on now and how they’re doing. Let’s begin with…

Alberto Gonzalez

player

Well, Alberto Gonzalez hasn’t exactly been a former Yankee for that long. He was traded for Jhonny Nunez only a few days ago. But he’s enjoying his time as a National. The guy, so far, has hit very well for the Nats. He has 4 hits in 9 at bats, with 2 walks and 3 runs scored. He’s enjoyed victory in his little taste of Washington. He and Emilio Bonifacio have brought energy up to the Washington ballclub. He’s got a few pictures on his page on http://www.nationals.com, check them out if you want. I wish this guy the best, I’ve always liked his talent.

Jeff Karstens

player

Coming over to Pittsburgh in the Nady/Marte deal, his first start was a successful one. He shut down the Cubs over 6 innings, walking 4 and giving up 5 hits, but no runs. The guy is ugly  talented, he’s got decent stuff, if he can control it, he’ll be good. Check out his picture on http://www.pittsburghpirates.com. The Pirates could use him if he can pitch well in their rotation.

Wil Nieves

player

What’s the deal with this? Nieves has a job of backup catcher for the Nats. He’s hitting .278 with a homer and 11 RBIs for Washington. But he never contributed, offensively or defensively for the Yankees. This came almost out of nowhere! Etiher way, though, Nieves is a really good guy, he’s really nice, I’ve always liked him, it’s great that he’s performing this way.

Final Thoughts

Well, it’s a short one today, but a long day of blogging. It’s time for Jeff’s favorite; the Bold Statement of the Day! He loves it. Here it is!

The Yankees, thriving on the Texas air, will dominate Rangers pitching.

Well, there you have it! Again, thanks to everyone for stopping by at the in-gamer, the comments I got were insane, I love the Yankees.

Stay positive, Yankees fans!

Slumpin’

canojump.PNG

Slumpin’

The Yankees have been slumping the last 3 days. They’ve lost, but it hasn’t been because of their pitching, which was considered to be a weak point. The pitching has actually been good. But, whod’ve thunk it, the New York Yankees are struggling offensively.

It’s not something you’d expect from the Yanks. They are a talented team when it comes to swinging the stick, and they have been for many years now. But this year, there’s been that week or so where the offense doesn’t do anything at all, and as you can imagine, it’s really frustrating for Yankee fans.

But the pitching staff has been great the past few weeks, run support or no run support. It’s something that’s made me feel confident and probably makes a lot of other Bombers fans confident. Maybe people don’t give this staff enough credit.

I have a YouTube account and I recently uploaded a slideshow containing pictures from the Yankees’ 2008 season. This is the link:

Talking ‘Bout Trades

As the Trade Deadline aproaches here in July, it’s difficult not to talk about who’s going to go where for who at this point. That’s why I’ve decided that every now and then I’ll talk about who I think will find a new home this MLB season.

In my last post about trades, I went under ‘Trade Talk’. That just happens to be the name of a very popular blog here on MLBlogs.com, which I had not known for some reason. I send my apologies.

Anyway, in my last Trade section, I thought up a possible trade between the Yankees and Rockies in which Brian Fuentes and Joe Koshansky would go to the Yanks for Jeff Marquez, Reegie Corona, and Heath Phillips. If you want to know why this trade could be possible, read that post.

I still think C.C. Sabathia could be traded to the Phillies. I think it would make a lot of sense. Sabathia could really carry that team to the playoffs. Plus, he’s proven he can swing the stick, which would really suit the Phillies.

So who else could be traded? There’s talk of Vicente Padilla wearing the sacred Pinstripes, but I’m not really that open to Padilla coming over here. He’s been inconsistent his entire career, and he usually goes through a stretch of starts where he’s completely awful. He’s already been very good this season, so it seems like he’s due to go through that stretch of awfulness at any time.

You know what trade I like? Gil Meche to the Yankees. He’s got about 3 more years in his contract, but the big young talented pitchers are just about Major League-ready, so Meche really doesn’t have a big place in that Kansas City rotation. He’s a good, solid pitcher who’s been having a bad season, but appears to have picked it up. He has 4 straight good starts as of now. I think he’d be a good fit in the overachieving Yankee rotation. Rasner seems to have completely lost it, so..

Final Thoughts

We’re winning 12-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning. It’s been a really wacky game; a Grand Slam by Giambi, we were leading 6-3, then we were losing 7-6 on a couple of two-run homers by Texas, and then we have a huge 6-run seventh in which we’ve batted around.

Now we’re winning 15-7 on a 3-run home run by A-Rod. Boy, he can hit.

Baseball is a funny sport. You could have great pitching and awful hitting for a few games, and then have a ballgame like this where you score 15 runs and give up 7. It’s as simple as 1 + 1;  the Yankees can hit, and sometimes they can pitch. As a Yankee fan, you’ve gotta hope that the pitching can keep it up and that the offense goes on a tear. When you score 15 runs, that’s usually a morale booster. We’re facing the Red Sox next, and the Red Sox haven’t played all that well as of late, Hope for a sweep!
